When a Finnish aggregates quarry wanted more from a Metso GP330 that was already running well, Element supplied a new wide-teeth mantle which delivered 53% longer service life at a significantly lower cost per tonne.

Background.
A Finnish aggregates quarry producing mainly 16-56 mm material had been running Element’s standard C-profile mantle in its Metso GP330. The site uses a simple two-stage setup: a jaw crusher handles the first stage of coarse crushing, and the GP330 cone crusher handles the second stage, reducing the rock to its final size. It works on medium-hardness stone, and because the operation frequently moves between sites, the feed conditions vary rather than remain fixed. In general, the standard C-liner was operating well, and the customer was satisfied.
But even when a setup works well, we strive for excellence in every part, following our mission: to optimize the operations of our customers, not settle for good enough. Therefore, we set out to get more from the same crusher: longer wear life and higher capacity, without switching to a costlier material or disrupting an operation that moves between sites.
Our solution.
Element introduced a new wide-teeth mantle for the GP330, a new profile added to our portfolio to match this customer’s crushing duty, in standard Mn18Cr2 austenitic manganese steel (Grade D).
The wider-teeth geometry grips the feed more effectively and starts crushing higher in the chamber, biting into the rock almost as soon as it enters. The result is more even crushing and more output from the same machine, on the same standard alloy, at a competitive price.
Results.
- 53% longer service life from 200,000 tonnes average to 306,000 tonnes, measured at the same end-of-line point.
- 50% higher crushing capacity in the first days of operation.
- Less fine material generated, which is beneficial where downstream product specification matters.
More even wear across the wide-teeth mantle compared to the standard C-profile liner previously in use.
