AR27 Wet-End Set significantly improves wear life for Metso MDM300 Mill Discharge Pump
The Metso MDM 300 mill discharge pump’s full wet-end set, which is supplied by Element in AR27 high-chrome alloy, extended wear life by 15-20% over OEM parts for an iron ore operation.

Challenge.
Frequent downtime was being driven by a short inlet liner lifespan, with wet-end parts requiring early replacement. The customer had been running OEM wet-end parts and was looking to move away from them due to the cost and lead time, rather than a performance failure with the OEM parts themselves.
Our solution.
After analyzing the customer’s application, Element supplied a full wet-end set including impeller, casing, inlet liner, and back liner in the AR27 high-chrome white cast alloy, engineered for greater hardness and wear resistance under sustained abrasive duty.
Results.
- 15-20% longer wear life than OEM parts previously in use, which meant fewer changeouts over the same operating period.
- Lower OPEX, driven by needing fewer replacement sets than the OEM alternative required.
- Reduced unplanned downtime. Maintenance can now be scheduled in advance, replacing the early, unplanned replacements that OEM parts required.
What It Means to Our Customers
This case reflects how Element works: listening to what’s actually driving customers’ decisions, whether that is downtime, cost, or lead time, and answering with a customer-made solution around their real constraints, not a standard parts swap.
